Why Genevieve?

Whether you're a longtime student of New Thought or encountering the insights of Genevieve Behrend for the first time, this biography serves as a compelling tribute to a mental scientist whose wisdom continues to resonate today.

Genevieve Behrend was a prolific author in the early 1900’s, publishing five books between 1921 and 1934.  I had originally read three of her books about 20 years ago on the recommendation of a friend.  Four of her books would be classified as self-help books today.  She was mentioned in the book The Secret by Rhonda Byrne.  Her works were some of the earliest books on using positive mental visualization to change your life’s circumstances.

Her works were Christian based upon the teachings of Thomas Troward, a British lecturer and author.  She took his philosophy and broke it down so that early 20th century audiences could understand his works.

Her self-help books included “Your Invisible Power,” How to Live Your Life and Love It,” “Attaining Your Hearts Desires,” the Healing Power is Life.”

Later in her life she put her talent to fiction in a book titled “Romance and Prophecies of the Great Pyramid.”  Her books are still widely read and there is even a Facebook group that comments on her teachings.

Genevieve Behrend Research Portfolio

In addition to my standard presentations, I can develop custom programs on Genevieve Behrend, her writings, Thomas Troward, early New Thought, metaphysical publishing, or related historical topics. Each presentation is tailored to the interests of your organization and audience, combining original research with engaging storytelling and historical context.

Research Methods

This project relied on traditional historical and genealogical research methods, combining census records, vital records, immigration and passport files, newspapers, city directories, court records, probate files, and archival collections. Evidence from multiple sources was analyzed, correlated, and compared to resolve conflicting accounts and reconstruct Genevieve Behrend’s life, travels, relationships, and career with the greatest possible historical accuracy.

Indirect Evidence

Many key details of Genevieve Behrend’s life were not documented in a single record. This research relied on correlating indirect evidence from multiple sources, including travel records, census data, newspapers, court files, and family associations. By analyzing patterns, timelines, and context, it was possible to draw well-supported conclusions where direct evidence was absent.

Storytelling

Historical research becomes more meaningful when facts are placed within a compelling narrative. By combining documented evidence with historical context, storytelling helps audiences understand not only what happened, but why it mattered. This approach brings historical figures to life, making complex research accessible, memorable, and engaging for diverse audiences.
